What are the benefits of the procedure?
Fraxel Re:Pair treatments are gentler than conventional ablative laser treatments available today, yet the results they produce are dramatic. Fraxel Re:Pair can also produce results in as few as 1 to 2 treatment sessions. The laser uses a fractional method of dividing skin into microscopic columns and using the laser to penetrate the skin in very specific zones. This way, the laser avoids a blanket treatment of the skin, reducing recovery time for the patient while increasing overall results.
What can I expect from the actual procedure?
To prepare you for the procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned. About an hour before the treatment begins, the surgeon, Dr. Daniel Behroozan, will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the surface of the skin and may give you medicine to help you relax. A high-energy carbon dioxide laser is used to reach deep into the skin to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen while minimizing any effects on healthy tissue. Most patients report feeling a warm sensation on the treated area during the procedure, and some may experience mild discomfort or pain. But following the procedure, patients are quite comfortable, particularly compared with other ablative treatments. Because the Re:Pair procedure is more aggressive, fewer treatments will be needed. Typically, treating an entire face takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
What are the side effects and how long will it take to recover?
Depending on how aggressive the Re:Pair treatment is, patients may experience some swelling or redness, along with as minimal bleeding or oozing from the skin as it heals over the first 2 to 3 days. During this time, patients should cleanse and moisturize the area while avoiding direct sunlight. Following this stage, the skin may begin to feel itchy and begin to flake as damaged cells are exfoliated. Within 5 to 7 days, patients begin to see the appearance of healthier, clearer and smoother skin on the treated area. Improvements may continue over the next few weeks. Patients usually can resume their daily activities within 5 to 7 days.
